Recycling program strengthens release liner sustainability

PET pellets

Avery Dennison isimproving self-adhesive label sustainability by expanding a program, linking British and Irish brand owners with European release liner recycling facilities. PET Processors UK of Dumfries, Scotland, has joined a group of designated partner processors that buy PET or collect paper, enabling packaging end users of Avery Dennison materials to add value to their operations and eliminate landfill or incineration costs.

PET recycling generates income

PET liner can be a significant source of financial revenue. PET Processors UK converts the liner into thermal forming sheets for food containers and compounds for industrial use in automotive and construction. With this new facility, brand owners in this region can directly benefit from the Avery Dennison recycling program with quantities as low as two tons.

Currently, two major PET recycling companies, with several facilities across the continent, are involved in the scheme. Operators in the program offer up to € 120 per tonne delivered, with costs depending on volume and collection costs, unless liner users choose to deliver waste to the recycling facility.

Europe-wide glassine collection

The selected glassine recyclers in the Avery Dennison program convert liner material into diverse paper products, reused to produce new materials.Operating at several facilities across Europe, they handle a minimum of three tonnes and collect free of charge. This European-wide collection minimises transport costs.

All Avery Dennison release liner products, whether PET or paper-based, offer 100 percent recyclability.
